AMIS-CAMEROON started as a research project sponsored by the SWEDISH based SPIDER organization that promotes Information and Communication Technologies for Development Initiatives in Developing countries. The research which was conducted with a group of organized farming groups in the Fako Division of Cameroon investigated the potential of instant SMS to inform and educate farmers about productive farming practices and connect them to markets with a view to improving their economic situation. The positive feedback from this research proved that there exists a large rural community of farmers and consumers for whom an actual application shall be useful.
No matter its manifestations, the AMISPROJECT stem from a combination of farming experience or observations and involvement with mobile technologies।
